CV

Siobhan McNutt, a Galway-based visual artist, focuses on mark-making using materials like ink, watercolour, acrylic, graphite, pen, and charcoal. Her work explores natural elements such as sea, land, and rock, examining our connection to the natural world through drawing, painting, collage, and printmaking. She also experiments with the contrasts between materials like ink and acrylic, as well as solid mediums like graphite and charcoal.

Siobhan’s tactile approach is influenced by her background in the McNutt family’s textiles business in Donegal and her experience in the fashion industry in Paris, Copenhagen, and Dublin, which inspire her use of colour and texture. Since 2008, she has taught drawing and design at Galway Technical Institute. A member of Visual Artists Ireland, her work has been widely exhibited in Ireland and was featured in Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture projects. Currently, she is pursuing a master’s in Creative Practice at Atlantic Technological University.

Summary

Siobhan uses AI tools like ChatGPT, ArtPlacer, and Perplexity to enhance her artistic practice and streamline operations. She is developing a virtual exhibition and integrating ArtPlacer into her website, allowing clients to preview her art in augmented reality, eliminating the need for physical setups. While she finds AI tools effective, adapting to them can be challenging, especially without formal training. She believes workshops or expert guidance would greatly improve her proficiency.

ChatGPT assists her with writing content for her website and social media, helping her overcome her dislike of writing. It provides drafts, which she edits to suit her style, and helps her diversify her language in newsletters and posts. Perplexity is a valuable research tool, enabling her to explore art techniques, such as Japanese methods, to enrich her knowledge and articulate her ideas. Despite being more visually inclined, she appreciates how these tools complement her work, making tasks like writing more manageable and improving her overall productivity.
